Disarm: The Complete Novel
The first time I was filled with so much angst. The second time I was filled with so much beauty and heartbreak. Elsie and Henry have always had a bond. It was easy with Henry being her brothers best friend but unbeknownst to the other they had feelings for one another but had denied them because the familiarity of each other was easier. Until Henry gets the news that he is going to be deployed. After the loss of Elsie's brother she hardly can take it but Henry realizes that he has to let her know how he feels before it is too late. One week before he goes he admits that he is in love with Elsie which is returned but then he is sent off with Elsie waiting for him to return.
He does return but he doesn't return as the same person. Knowing that Elsie has lost a part of Henry she pushes to hard and both of them are left on their own to heal themselves from a gutting heartbreak. But this is where the beauty comes in the journey for the two them is painful yet still beautiful. To find themselves so they can be whom each other needs. This book has a perfect balance of passion, angst, heartbreak, healing, friendship and love.
I really like Henry and Elsie. I am a sucker for a "in love with my brothers best friend story". I wanted to know more about them, and see their happily ever after. I ended up not really liking Henry. He makes so many decisions that, even after all the explanations never really sense to me - unless he wasn't really the kind of guy I thought he was in that first book. Even though the whole breaking up w 3. Even though the whole breaking up with her was suppose to be some attempt to make sure they were really meant to be together - it was a lame explanation.
I might have been able buy Elsie's mom's take on it - if he hasn't basically done the same thing several times - unilaterally decided it wasn't right, and ran away. It made it hard for me to like Henry - at all. I was proud of her for standing up for herself, and not letting Henry walk all over her. I was happy with the conclusion, but I probably would have been just as happy to see Elsie be happy with someone else. View 2 comments. You will need to devour this is one sitting because you will not be able to put it down. Believable characters and an adorable love story. My only wish is I could get a signed copy to proudly display on my shelf. I had to edit this because I actually did win a signed copy with a very sweet note from the author. This series is one I always go back to in my mind as one that touched my heart and soul. I simply adore it. Would recommend to anyone who love's a good romance.
I loved all of these books in the series. I laughed, cried and couldn't put it down until I had read them all. Find this review and more at kimberlyfaye reads.

Holy crap. By now, I should realize that books featuring military characters pack a special type of emotional wallop. I thought I was prepared going into this one, but I underestimated the range of emotions I would go through while reading it. Days after finishing this book and the sequel, Arrest! What characters. What a story. One thing I can say for sure is that I'm glad I never trie Find this review and more at kimberlyfaye reads. One thing I can say for sure is that I'm glad I never tried to read this book when it was a serial.
With the way some of the parts ended, I think I would have curled up in a ball and cried if I hadn't been able to begin the next section immediately. I mean, half the time I was ready to curl up and cry anyhow, but that was just from the feels. Having to wait would have just made it worse. This is billed as an erotica novel, and while it was sexy and steamy, I didn't see it being that much more explicit than most of the other new adult and adult titles I read.
Interview with June Gray, author of the DISARM series
Not criticizing, just felt like I needed to mention that. If you follow my reviews with any type of regularity, you know I'm a sucker for friends first stories. This is one of my new favorites. While it's true Henry was really Elsie's brother's friend first, after Jason's death, Henry and Elsie became very close friends. What neither knew about the other is that they both were harboring crushes on each other.
Disarm: the Complete Novel by June Gray | Penguin Random House Canada
We readers come in after their friendship is already solid and they're flirting with the lines and thinking about being something more, but there was no doubt this was not insta-love and what they shared was very real. It all sounds great, right?
Well, then there's the other thing. The thing where Henry's in the military and about to be shipped off overseas. They love each other and once he returns, everything will be great for them because the biggest obstacle possible is behind them, right? Oh, if only it was that easy. When Henry returns, he's not the man Elsie fell in love with. It's obvious he's struggling to deal with something, but he's also not very forthcoming with his feelings.
They're both hurting and while neither makes the conscious decision to hurt the other, it's what happens. Thus begins the most painful part of their journey. I lost track of how many times I got all teary-eyed and upset with both of them. I was mentally and physically exhausted when I finished this book. I also jumped immediately into the sequel thinking that would help give me some closure and make everything right again.
